On 31 May, 1916, the British Royal Navy precipitated a head-to-head battle with the German Imperial Fleet, sending 151 British warships to confront the German ships.
This was supposed to be Britain's second Trafalgar but ended as the bloodiest day in Royal Navy History.
During 12 chaotic hours, over 6,000 Allied sailors died, and 14 giant British warships sank to the bottom of the North Sea.

Over eight weeks, 21 homes will compete for the Home of the Year title, with three very different properties featured each week.
From restorations and new builds to renovations and re-design, Home of the Year features Irish locals who have created their dream homes.
The eighth season will champion creativity, showcase clever design and will feature a diverse mix of homes including a lighthouse keeper's cottage, converted buildings such as a former carriage house and a former shop, reimagined semi-detached homes, architectural masterpieces, DIY homes, restored period treasures and new builds.
The season will feature homes in Galway, Wicklow, Down, Cork, Longford, Sligo, Kilkenny, Antrim, Kerry and Tipperary.
This year returning judges, architect and founding partner of Douglas Wallace Consultants, Hugh Wallace and architect Amanda Bone are joined by new judge, interior designer Sara Cosgrove.
Looking for individuality, functionality and clever design, the three judges will each score the homes out of 10 and the home with the highest combined score in each programme will go through to the final, where the winner will be crowned.
