Channel: Curiosity Channel (DStv 185)
TX Time: 21h00
Genre: Documentary, History, Docu-Drama
During the Renaissance, an era marked by change and renewal, Johannes Kepler entered the scientific scene and revolutionised contemporary thinking on space and time.
Nowadays we associate Kepler with his famous laws of planetary motion.
But the history of his discoveries is a drama of Shakespearian proportions – full of intrigue, passion, depravity and corruption.
His personal biography is almost too tumultuous to be true.
Originally a mathematician, Kepler's discoveries has secured him recognition as the father of modern natural sciences.
Understanding the cosmos – a dream of humanity from time immemorial.
The fact that it has become reality is largely due to a man who, 400 years ago, set out to explore the mysteries of the heavens: Johannes Kepler.
His groundbreaking laws of planetary motion set the stage for modern astronomy, as we know it today.
His successes, however, were hard-won in the shadow of numerous challenges, personal tragedies and entanglements.
Just in time for the 400-year-anniversary of Kepler's 3rd law, we travel back in time to a century of war, chaos and death.
This documentary drama focuses on the biography of this key figure in the 17th-century scientific revolution.
With about 80% reenactments, this film also illustrates Kepler's thoughts and views in the form of animations and takes you on an expedition into another world.
