See Sibongile soar
Sibongile & The Dlaminis has officially taken the No.1 spot on DStv in a momentous way, outperforming Umkhokha by a whopping 539,835 viewers - over half a million.
Also, it's almost doubled its audience share, shooting up from 8.9 to 15.9.
We haven't seen a show bulldoze its way up the ratings like this in forever. If ever.
It must be because Skeem Saam moved out of the 18h30 timeslot.
Skeem Saam's time change impact
Skeem Saam and Scandal! made it out alive despite the fact that they're now sharing the 19h30 timeslot and both experienced the inevitable decline we knew would happen.
However Scandal! was definitely hardest hit because of losing its long-running position as the No 1. show on e.tv.
Skeem Saam sank from No.2 on SABC1 to No.3 but that's not as dramatic when it comes to a show's prestige on a channel.
Numbers-wise, Scandal! was hardest hit too. Here's a comparison of the most watched episode for both shows in February versus March:
Show |
February 2024 |
March 2024 |
Decline |
Scandal! |
4,433,177 |
3,755,361 |
677,816 |
Skeem Saam |
4,044,187 |
3,971,460 |
72,727 |
It's interesting to note that their audience share tells a slightly different story in that Scandal! lost less audience share than Skeem Saam.
*Audience share refers to the percentage of people who watched a show in relation to the total number of people watching TV countrywide at the time.
Ultimately though, their audience share used to be similar and it still is, but it's down for both:
Show |
February 2024 |
March 2024 |
Decline |
Scandal! |
40,1% |
36,6% |
3.5% |
Skeem Saam |
41,3% |
35,8% |
5.5% |
In other words, Scandal! lost 3.5% of its audience share to Skeem Saam, which isn't too bad considering the circumstances.
