Suidooster crystal ball: what's blowing in for winter

You've seen the latest Suidoosterville teasers here, now scooch in close for these behind-the-scenes details on the characters' inner conflicts, relationship troubles and a newcomer:

Over the past few weeks, strong winds of change blew through Suidooster when Marco Spaumer, in the role of the devious Tim du Plooy, left the soapie and viewers were introduced to a new actor, Daniel Coetzee as Riaan Vosloo.

According to the soapie’s publicity manager, Wilmer Müller, viewers can expect a variety of gale force storylines with the approach of the Cape Winter.

“One of the twists that will have viewers reaching for their tissues, is news about Ty Daniels (Maurice Paige). He disappeared after being diagnosed with a brain tumour,” Wilmer says.

“It is taking a huge toll on his family and it seems as if this once tight family’s foundations are busy crumbling.”

Dean Smith, in the role of Ty’s brother Wade Daniels, warns about more big shocks awaiting the Daniels family.

“Not only does Carlo (Jadon Booysen) start rebelling, but Wade and his sister-in-law Lee-Ann (Portia Joel) are locking horns about the way forward. Then they receive an unexpected call that gives them some hope again,” says Dean.

“These scenes were challenging for our actors, but in a good way. The storyline awoke so many different emotions while various characteristics displayed by Wade, Lee-Ann and Carlo come to the fore for the first time.”

Another major storyline that has just started, involves the much-loved Samsodien family facing yet another new crisis.

Jawaahier Petersen’s character, Kaashifa Samsodien, has just undergone reconstructive breast surgery after she survived breast cancer. Despite the successful operation, Kaashifa has lost her sense of taste and smell.

Jawaahier says these symptoms experienced by Kaashifa are a complete mystery.

“It is very frustrating for Kaashifa, being a chef and in the process of opening a second restaurant, to have no sense of smell and taste.

“She starts making rash decisions about her future without discussing it with her husband, Rhafiek (Irshaad Ally).

“On top of it, she blames everything on Rhafiek because she feels he pressured her too much to undergo surgery. This leads to tension in their marriage,” says Jawaahier.

“With the rug pulled from underneath her, Kaashifa is undergoing some kind of personality change, and viewers get to see a side of her that will leave them dumbfounded.

“At the same time, one must keep in mind that Kaashifa has been through a lot of trauma and sadness in her life. Maybe she has not yet dealt with it all,” explains Jawaahier.

Another exciting storyline kicking off in June will leave viewers very hot under the collar. Yes, a new slippery fox is slinking around in Ruiterbosch.

“Donovan Pietersen, whom kykNET viewers will recognise from his roles in Spoorloos: Steynhof and Getroud met Rugby, is going to cause trouble in Suidooster as Texas Kannemeyer,” says Wilmer.

“With his arrival at Ruiterbosch, Texas already causes a big stir when he tries to open a new business in the Suidooster Centre.

“The question is: Will his dirty laundry be aired in time?”

Premiere episodes of Suidooster air on kykNET at 18h00 and kykNET & Kie Mondays to Fridays at 18h30.
