Defending Europe explores the incredible strategies, weapons and structures different European countries have used to defend and protect their territory through the ages.
Covering over 1,000 years of history, it shows how these often-forgotten stories and sites played a pivotal role in creating the countries and borders of Europe we know today.
Each episode focuses on a different country and delves into the critical moments when each nation's survival was threatened, investigating how defensive sites kept that country safe, forged and defined its national borders and built the character and identity of its people.
Experts explore the engineering and impressive scale of the defensive fortifications, weapons and strategies that were developed to defend borders and track how these tactics evolved to counter new threats and technologies.
The series covers more than two millennia of history and features locations that tie into some of the biggest names and moments in European history, from the Roman Empire to Hitler's conquest of Europe.
Medieval kings and queens and Napoleon Bonaparte are also among the figures chronicled in the show.

Meanwhile, Archer and Charles deal with twins who insist on being identical inside and out.
Also, Stevie and Dylan treat a young patient with sickle cell anaemia.
In the second episode of the weekly double bill, "To Lean In, or to Let Go": Vanessa and Archer disagree on how to handle the victim of a motorcycle accident.
Meanwhile, Dylan and Charles deal with a UNICEF negotiator with repressed trauma.
