TX Time: 19h25
Genre: Documentary Series, Factual
Throughout the past century, dictators held Europe in an iron grip.
Yet, despite their unquestioned control, paranoia and distrust corrupted their minds.
In order to secure their authoritarian rule, numerous bunkers, palaces and hideouts sprung up around Europe.
From Stalin's secret underground super bunkers in Moscow to Hitler's clandestine Riese headquarters to Ceausescu's People's Palace – the world's heaviest building, among many others, Dictators' Hideouts explores the dark confines of these megaprojects, investigating their mysteries, analysing their costs, and testing their efficacy against an all-out attack.
Viewers will be taken on a visual journey through the construction and design of the remote palaces, underground bunkers, and fortified compounds that served both as symbols of power and retreats from the outside world.
Each episode will focus on the private sanctuary of a different European autocrat – Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Albanian 'strong man' Enver Hoxha, Joseph Stalin, Nicolae Ceausescu and Viktor Yanukovych.
