Episode Title: Making Art From Junk
This feel-good episode invites puppeteer Colleen Trigaardt to work with self-help group Ilithalomso who make wonderful art out of trash.
Headed up by Yandiswa Mazwane, the Ilithalomso, Craft from Waste Project produces stunning art and craft out of what most of us see as rubbish. Not only are they producing wonderful works of art, but they are earning a living for themselves and their families as well as cleaning up the environment and teaching their skills to others.
“At first I felt like I was just playing, wasting my time really, but as we learned and grew, I saw that this is very worthwhile. Now I love it”, says Yandiswa. “We have opened a shop here at Imhoff and we are supplying various other shops such as African Image and Moyo and we also sell too many tourists” she adds.
Colleen Triegaardt is a 29-yr old puppeteer who studied drama at Stellenbosch University. In 2001 she traveled abroad and discovered clowning. She lived and worked at the Belfast Circus School for an extensive period of time where they often did street performances involving juggling, clowning, and puppetry as well as hosting workshops for special needs kids.
After returning to South Africa last year, together with puppeteer Gareth Pretorius, they have put together a puppet show called “Silly Billy in the Land of Dreams” which has just premiered in the 2006 Grahamstown Arts Festival.
The Head Wrap Challenge
The women from Ilithalomso are challenged to work with puppeteer Colleen Triegaardt and put together a performance with an entertaining narrative and strong anti-waste message. They will produce puppet characters out of the waste but to push the envelope even further they will incorporate the “out of the box” style that Colleen is well known for.
They become the puppeteers as well as the performers and their art becomes the puppets; the stage and the backdrop for the show.
Colleen’s challenge is to work with a group that is artistically strong but that has no theatre or performance background. She also has to help direct the making of the puppets based on the characters they create for the narrative.
Can they make the rubbish come alive and make a strong story in just one day?

Channel: Action X |
Season: 2 |
Time: 19h00 |
Episodes: 22 |
In the season premiere, entitled A Stitch In Time:
FBI agent Jamie Pratt has investigated some pretty strange cases in her time, but this one may be the strangest of all: 17 men from all over the country, all murdered with the same gun.
The gun is traced to Dr. Theresa Givens, a scientist who recently led a top-secret government agency.
This discovery only deepens the mystery, though, because Givens was only five years old at the time of the first murder and the gun itself hadn't even been made.
As Pratt investigates further, she discovers the mystery that lies behind the locked door in Dr. Givens' office and learns first-hand of the temptations and dangers of undoing the evils of the past.
