Bio
Alida Theron is a South African actress, ex-radio DJ, voice artist and entrepreneur best known for her work in Afrikaans television drama series including Ballade vir 'n Enkeling, 7de Laan, Binnelanders and Kruispad.
After completing her honours degree in Drama at UCT, Alida joined the Performing Arts Council of the Transvaal (PACT) where she acted in a variety of productions, ranging from Shakespeare's Macbeth (as Lady Macbeth), to Don Dinges met die Groen Broek to Chris Barnard's Taraboemdery and Reza de Wet's Drie Susters 2.
After four years on the stage she embarked on a freelance career, appearing in TV productions such as Agter Elke Man, Maplotters, Saartjie and Veldslag.
Other television series she has acted in include Drie Susters, Die Swart Kat, Egoli and Isidingo.
Alida also has an extensive theatre resume which includes such productions as Ghost, Hond se Gedagte, Ons wag op die Kaptein, Lion in Winter, Vernuftige Vryer, Na die Front and 3 Susters 2.
She has also performed in a number of stage musicals including Graffiti, Met Permissie Gesê and Blootlê.
She was twice nominated in the category Best Supporting Actress for her theatre work and was also nominated for her roles in Hond se Gedagte and Mattewis en Meraai.
She began her career in the broadcasting industry in 1986 as a DJ, taking over the late night show on Jacaranda and making it her own. She stayed as a DJ on Jacaranda FM from 1986-2002.
She has also acted in a number of radio plays.
With her husband Pierre Schenage, Alida co-founded AirTime Productions, which creates and places professional radio advertisements in South Africa.
With her professional training, Alida also contributes to the direction of the recordings. She also does voice work for commercials and for audio-visual documentaries, and is one of the voice artists used by AirTime Productions. In addition, she is the financial manager of the company.
Alida joined the cast of the SABC2 drama series Erfsondes for its second season (2009) in the role of Tannie Hessie.
