Bio
Alan Van Sprang is a Canadian actor best known for his starring role as Sir Francis Bryan in the period drama television series The Tudors, in 2009.
He also starred as Derek Spears in the police procedural television series King (2011-2012) and has a starring role as Henry II of France, the King of France and the father-in-law of Mary Stuart, in the historical fiction period drama television series Reign.
In The Tudors, he conspired as the courtier and diplomat Sir Francis Bryan, the man with the eye-patch nick-named the "Vicar from Hell".
In George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead (2009) and Diary of the Dead (2007), he fought off a zombie epidemic. He appears in Robert Townsend's biopic of Sonny Liston Phantom Punch (2007), in Pay in Full (2010) and in Narc (2002) with Ray Liotta and Jason Patric.
He has also been seen in Saw III and George Romero's Land of the Dead (2005).
Owner of a Boston hot spot in the series The Best Years (2007), Alan's other television credits include 11 Cameras, Cra$h & Burn, and Paradise Falls. He has guested on such series as Monk, The Newsroom, Guns, ReGenesis, Degrassi: The Next Generation, Flashpoint, Being Erica and The L.A. Complex.
A native of Calgary, Alan has appeared in theatres across the country in such productions as The Heiress, Arcadia, Cyrano de Bergerac and Hamlet.
The passionate hockey fan and dedicated shinny player appears in Tarsem Singh's fantasy The Immortal, opposite Mickey Rourke and Henry Cavill.
