Richard Wilson is a Scottish actor, director and presenter best known for his role as Victor Meldrew in the television sitcom One Foot in the Grave, from 1990-2000.
He is also known for his starring role as Gaius, the court physician of Camelot, in the fantasy drama television series The Adventures of Merlin (also known simply as Merlin), from 2008-2012.
Born in Greenock, Renfrewshire as Ian Colquhoun Wilson, Richard has made quite a name for himself in the industry. Aside from acting, he is also a theatre director and presenter.
He studied in his hometown and later did National Service with the Royal Army Medical Corps, serving in Singapore. Soon, he found himself working in a laboratory as a research scientist.
Despite that, he decided to switch careers and shift to acting when he was 27 years old. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, soon making appearances in repertory theatres in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester.
