Bio
Sma Mathibeli (known earlier in her career as Smangele Mbatha) is a South African actress and radio personality best known for her roles in the SABC1 drama series Yizo Yizo (Nomsa) and Zone 14 (Madi).
In 2012 she joined the cast of the e.tv soapie Scandal! in the role of Nomcebo, Kila's (Siyabonga Shibe) wife hailing from rural KwaZulu-Natal.
Sma has appeared in a number of television series with roles on Gaz'lam, Yizo Yizo, Heartlines and Zone 14. For her portrayal of Nomsa in Yizo Yizo she received a Special Mention at the 2004 Venice Film Festival's Human Rights Film Network Awards.
She has also played roles in a variety of theatre productions (including The Devil's Protest and The Toilet) and worked at Gagasi 99.5 FM as a content producer for a number of years.
After matriculating in 1999 she studied art management and audiovisual communication at University before leaving to train at The Market Theatre Laboratory and The Institute of African Theatre. She has worked with theatre organisations and companies such as the Positive Art Society and the Youth Drama Society.
Sma speaks four languages. She currently resides in Johannesburg.
