Peter MacNicol is an American actor best known for his role as eccentric attorney John Cage in the television dramedy Ally McBeal, for which he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2001.

He has been a member of the main credited cast in the TV series The Powers That Be (1992-1993), Ally (1999), Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law (2003-2006), Numb3rs (2005-2010) and the sixth season of 24 (2007).

He has had recurring roles in Chicago Hope, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Justice League, The Batman, and Danny Phantom.

Other television shows he has appeared in include Faerie Tale Theatre, Cheers, Tales From The Crypt, The Wild Thornberrys, This Just In, and Boston Legal.

MacNicol has also appeared in numerous feature films, including Dragonslayer (1981), Sophie's Choice (1982), Heat (1986), Ghostbusters II (1989), Addams Family Values (1993), Radioland Murders (1994), Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995), Mojave Moon (1996), Bean (1997), Baby Geniuses (1999), Breakin' All the Rules (2004), and Behind the Curtain (2005).
