Bio
Karl Anderson is a South African music industry professional who was A&R director for the music labels RPM Records (1991-1997) and EMI (1997-2003) before founding his own label, Just Music, in June 2003.
He is best known to television viewers as a judge on the first season of the reality competition Popstars, in 2002. The year after his stint on Popstars he left EMI to found Just Music, claiming inspiration from his time on the show.
As a judge on Popstars he was the mainstay for the overall image of the Popstars group. The look, music and sound formed part of his executive role.
Karl began his career in 1991 as PRO for the Virgin Records label at RPM Record Company. Promoted to A&R/marketing director of Gallo Record Company, he was responsible for representing Tommy Boy, Strictly Rhythm, Beggars Banquet, Rykodisc, Hollywood Records, Slash, Time and Almo.
Artists he's been responsible for in South Africa include Faithless, Right Said Fred, The Offspring, Coolio, Violent Femmes, Black, Beggars Group (including XL, 4AD and Matador), Hidden Beach, V2, TVT, Dramatico and Ministry of Sound, to name a few.
Domestic artists he has signed include Lark, J & Harris Tweed and Karen Zoid.
He conceptualised gold and platinum-selling Dance Adrenalin and Crazy Dance Party and was involved in the launch of the Camel Experience dance events.
