Emile Jansen (also known as Emile YX?, B-boy, War-lock or A-Free-Can I) is a South African hip hop artist who has been involved in the hip hop movement since 1982.
He is known for being a judge on the e.tv street dance reality competition Step Up or Step Out.
Hailing from Grassy Park on the Cape Flats in Cape Town, Emile was one of the founding members of legendary South African hip hop group Black Noise, in 1988.
Emile has released several hip hop albums and has performed internationally. In 1997 he won third place at the Battle Of The Year in Germany.
Emile is also a qualified teacher, an MC and graffiti artist and authored the book My Hip Hop is African and Proud.
His personal pledge is to make a significant contribution to society and the community. He's involved in various community projects including Heal The Hood and Project Breaking, which involves speaking out about racism and xenophobia.
In 2011 he was a judge on the e.tv street dance reality competition Step Up or Step Out. In the same year he was one of the featured subjects of the SABC1 reality series Play Your Part.
In July 2016 he appeared on the SABC3 reality series Jam Sandwich, collaborating with bluesman Manny Walters.
