Lotte Verbeek is a Dutch actress best known for her starring role as papal mistress Giulia Farnese in the historical drama television series The Borgias.
Verbeek won the best actress prize at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2009 for her starring role opposite Stephen Rea in Nothing Personal, filmed in Ireland at the old hunting house of Oscar Wilde.
Verbeek, who speaks five languages, was born and raised in Holland and studied ballet and theatre for seven years at the Theatre School in Amsterdam.
She appeared in a Dutch television series during her studies and, for her internship, played five roles in the 2008 feature film Links.
She then went to Paris on a scholarship to study drama and, with her ability to speak Italian, was cast in two episodes of the Italian television series Swing Girls. Filmed in Turin, the show centres on a Jewish female singing trio in the 1940s.
She was performing a solo stage project in Holland when cast in The Borgias.
