Nolan was born in Durban, South Africa. Originally an amateur DJ and guitarist, Jonathan began making R&B and hip hop backing tracks on his family computer and Casio keyboard as a hobby during his early high school years.
Soon after completing his high school career in Pietermaritzburg in 2003, Jonathan emigrated to London, England where he lived for two years and played one man guitar shows in small pubs around London.
Upon returning to South Africa in 2005, Jonathan was invited to join a band at the local FET college as a lead guitarist. The band played many performances but he was snapped up by a new up and coming band called Back2Life in 2006.
In Back2Life, Jonathan played rhythm guitar and became the lead vocalist of the band. He was the youngest member of the band, at 21 and was now surrounded by older and more experienced music professionals, from whom he learned very quickly, which led his passion and love of music to become even stronger.
While playing in the band, Jonathan resumed creating backing tracks and started composing new songs on computer for the band. Slowly, he focused more on producing and eventually found his niche as a composer.
