Jemima Kirke is an English actress and painter best known for her starring role as Jessa Johansson in the dark comedy-drama television series Girls.
Kirke meet and became friends with Lena Dunham whilst at school. Dunham asked her in appear in her 2010 film Tiny Furniture. This lead to her breakout role as Jessa Johansson in Dunham's hit HBO series Girls.
Kirke was born in London in 1985. She currently resides and works in Brooklyn with her husband, Michael Mosberg, and daughter, Rafaella. On 21 June, 2012 news broke that she was expecting her second child.
She is the daughter of drummer Simon Kirke and vintage boutique owner, Lorraine Kirke. Although born in London, Kirke was raised in New York City.
She was educated at Saint Ann's School in New York, before moving on to Rhode Island School of Design, where she studied art and graduated as a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
In 2011, Jemima was in a music video for the group Rival Schools. Both this music video and Smile for the Camera were directed by her friend Jordan Galland.
