Bio
Tony Pitts is an English actor and screenwriter best known for his starring role as Archie Brooks in the long-running British soap opera Emmerdale Farm, from 1983-1993.
Though he almost became a physician, Pitts instead turned his attention to acting, first appearing in the long running soap Emmerdale in 1983. He was member of the cast for a decade, departing in 1993 when his character was a victim of the infamous Emmerdale Plane Crash.
He appeared in guest roles in series including The Lakes (1999); The Bill (1999); In Deep (2002); and Conviction (2004).
He starred in the dark comedy series Dead Man Weds in 2005, and the acclaimed television mini-series Red Riding (2009), which was released in cinemas in the United States.
In 2011 he began a recurring role in the police drama Scott & Bailey and a two part story in Silent Witness. In early 2012 he made a memorable appearance as Lestrade's boss in Sherlock: The Reichenbach Fall.
In cinema, his work includes Powder (2005) and a small role in Steven Spielberg's War Horse (2011).
