Bio
Michael Nyqvist is a Swedish actor best known to English audiences for his role in the acclaimed Millennium series as Mikael Blomkvist, as well as in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol as Kurt Hendricks, the lead villain.
He also had a starring role as the mysterious villain White Vincent in the short-lived conspiracy thriller television series Zero Hour, in 2013.
Nyqvist's first big break came in 2000 with the film Together, directed by Lukas Moodysson. The movie was set in the 1970s and followed the antics of life in a suburban commune in Stockholm.
The movie reached great international success and earned Nyqvist his first Guldbagge Best Actor nomination for his portrayal of a misguided husband with anger issues.
In September 2012 Nyqvist was seen in Henry-Alex Rubin's independent American drama, Disconnect, opposite Alexander Skarsgard, Jason Bateman and Paula Patton.
Disconnect follows a large ensemble of characters who are affected - and in some cases destroyed - by the Internet and other forms of modern communication.
The film premiered at the 2012 Venice International Film Festival, out of competition, to positive reviews, also screened at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival as a special presentation, and was released by LD Entertainment in 2013.
In December 2011, Nyqvist was seen in the fourth instalment of the Paramount Pictures Mission Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol, directed by Brad Bird, playing the lead villain in the film.
Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol was released by Paramount on 21 December, 2011 and was a box-office success both domestically and internationally.
Also an author, in 2010 Nyqvist published a memoir entitled Just After Dreaming (Swedish title: När barnet lagt sig), which received critical accolades in Sweden as a charming compilation of memories from his childhood and young experiences in theatre school. In it he details his life from the time of his adoption as a baby to tracking down his biological parents at age 30.
Part of the permanent ensemble at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, Sweden, Nyqvist currently resides in Sweden.
