Bio
Gugu Manqele is a South African actress, singer, presenter and voice artist best known for her role as Veliswa in the SABC1 drama series Intersexions.
Born and raised in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, Gugu matriculated from the Interfellowship Christian School in Durban. She went on to achieve a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts at Wits University in Johannesburg, from 2008-2011.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts Honours, an Honours in Creative Writing and a MA in Film and Television from Wits University.
Sibusisiwe enjoys writing and doing voice overs in IsiZulu, and has written two plays.
Her directorial debut was on Pass Over as an assistant director; the play ran at the Market Theatre from 26 February to 28 March, 2021.
Her screenwriting credit include writing for Gomora and House of Zwide.
Passionate about telling stories in front of the camera, on stage and behind the scenes, she worked backstage on a few productions in 2010 during the FIFA World Cup, working as a Master Control Room Assistant for the Host Broadcast Services (HBS).
Since completion of her studies in 2011 she has been a Production Assistant on the second season of the SABC3 magazine programme Flash! and was a moderator on Big Brother Africa 7.
She also worked as a translator for Daily Sun TV, was a VJ on Hit Refresh on Vuzu and was a guest presenter on YOTV Crib Notes.
Gugu's screen acting debut was a starring role in the popular SABC1 drama series Intersexions 2, appearing in episodes 21, 24 and 26.
She later had a guest role in the Mzansi Magic drama series Saints and Sinners.
Gugu is multilingual and speaks Zulu, English, Xhosa and Afrikaans.
