David Wenham is an Australian actor best known for his roles as Faramir in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, Carl in Van Helsing, Dilios in 300 and Neil Fletcher in Australia.
He also had a starring role as Detective Senior Sergeant Al Parker, a mentor to Robin who enjoys a cushy position as head of the Queenstown Police Station and fits right into the boys' club atmosphere there, in the mystery drama miniseries Top of the Lake, in 2013.
His film credits include Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! and Australia, Better Than Sex, The Bank, The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers and The Return of the King, Gettin' Square, Van Helsing, The Proposition opposite Guy Pearce, 300 and Oranges and Sunshine, alongside Emily Watson and Hugo Weaving.
For television he received acclaimed for his roles as Diver Dan in Seachange and his portrayal of Andrew Fraser in Killing Time. Other credits include Answered by Fire, The Brush Off, After the Deluge, Simone De Beauvoir's Babies and Heartland.
In theatre he has performed in The Seagull, Hamlet, Splendids, The Tempest, Cosi, Jerry Springer: The Opera (Sydney Opera House); Cyrano De Bergerac and True West; Tartuffe.
David received a AFI Award in 2007 for his role in Answered by Fire, a Screen Actors Guild Award for The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, and a IF Award, FCCA Award and AFI Award for Getting' Square.
He received AFI Nominations for Oranges and Sunshine, The Bush Off, Molokai: The Story of Father Damien, The Bank, Better Than Sex, The Boys, Seachange and Simone De Beauvoir's Babies.
He has received a Silver Logie for his role in Seachange and nominations for After the Deluge, Answered by Fire and Killing Time.
