Kate Atkinson is an Australian actress best known for her starring role as Vera Bennett, the Deputy Governor of Wentworth Correctional Centre who can be a soft touch and a people pleaser, in the television drama series Wentworth.
Since graduating in 1993 from Curtain University in Western Australia with a double major in Theatre Arts and Film & Television, Atkinson has been a constant on Australian television and in theatre.
Her early roles included Blue Heelers, State Coroner, Man From Snowy River and perhaps the most prominent as Constable Karen Miller in the much-loved Seachange series, which lead onto The Cooks, Kath & Kim, UK series Sinchronicity, Sugar Rush 2, and Rush.
She also appeared in the Dr Blake Mysteries, the award-winning Offspring and the TV movie Jack Irish with Guy Pearce.
Born in Kalgoorlie and raised in Perth, Kate's extensive theatre credits include Becky Shaw, MTC's Rockabye and Away, and a UK tour of Romantic Comedy directed and starring Tom Conti.
Kate resides in Melbourne.
