Amandla Stenberg is an American actress best known early in her career for her film roles as young Cataleya in Colombiana and as Rue in The Hunger Games.
She also starred as Halle Foster in the short-lived sitcom Mr. Robinson, in 2015.
Stenberg shot to fame in her role as Rue in the box office hit The Hunger Games, alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. For her performance in the film she won a Teen Choice Award in 2012 with Jennifer Lawrence and was also nominated for an NAACP Image Award and a Black Reel Award.
Stenberg made her movie debut in Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?, followed by a breakout role as the young Cataleya Restrepo (played by Zoe Saldana) in Colombiana.
In 2013, Stenberg had a guest-starring role on Fox's Sleepy Hollow and in 2014 did voice-over work in Rio 2, alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway.
In addition to being an actress, Stenberg is also a musician, playing the violin, drums and guitar.
Her charitable contributions include being a youth ambassador for No Kid Hungry, an organisation under Share Our Strength, for which Jeff Bridges serves as spokesperson. She also spends time supporting the Ubuntu Education Fund, which nurtures children in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Her name means "power or strength" in Zulu and Xhosa, two of South Africa's 11 official languages.
