Bio
Peter Scanavino is an American actor best known for his starring role as Detective Dominick "Sonny" Carisi, Jr. on the police procedural television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Born and raised in Colorado, and after briefly studying in Boston, Scanavino caught a bus to New York City, where he has remained ever since.
He has worked extensively in theatre, with credits including the Tony Award-nominated Shining City on Broadway as well as revivals of Eric Bogosian's subUrbia and Howard Korder's Boys' Life, both at Manhattan's Second Stage Theater. He also appeared in the New York premiere of the Simon Stephens play Harper Regan at the Atlantic Theater Company.
In film, Scanavino starred in Josh Radnor's award-winning directorial debut Happythankyoumoreplease, Tom Gilroy's The Cold Lands and Matthew Watts' Mutual Friends. Television credits include The Blacklist, Chicago P.D., The Leftovers and Banshee.
In addition to acting, Scanavino's passion for cooking led him to an internship at Dan Barber's Michelin-starred restaurant Blue Hill after graduating from the French Culinary Institute.
