Thobani Mbhele is a South African actor, director and dancer best known for his role as CJ in the SABC1 sitcom Rented Family. It was his first starring role in television.
Thobani obtained a Diploma in Television and Drama Studies from the Durban University of Technology (2007-2009) and furthered his education in 2012 by doing a directing course for film and television as part of the Impucuzeko Skills and Development Programme.
He has guest starred in numerous television series, including Single Galz, Loxion Lyric, Gauteng Maboneng, uSkroef noSexy, High Rollers, eKasi: Our Stories, Generations and Is'thunzi.
He also has assistant director credits on Half a Man, How I Got Married, Mamello and Ya Lla; and was the co-creator (with Zuko Nodada) of the e.tv drama series The Kingdom - uKhakhayi.
In film, Thobani played the lead role in the 2012 film Bosso Ke Mang?; and had roles in Diary of a Playboy and Through the Lends, both in 2014.
In 2017 he landed a starring role as CJ in the SABC1 sitcom Rented Family.
