Bio
Gretchen Ramsden is a South African actress best known for her role as Nicolene Arendse in the kykNET & kie soapie Arendsvlei.
She did a BA in Theatre and Performance at the University of Cape Town from 2014-2017.
During this time she appeared in a number of student stage productions including Lied van die Boeings, All's Well That Ends Well, Kristalvlakte, Agamemnon and Judas.
In 2018 she voiced the role of Sengül Dogan on Doodsondes, the Afrikaans dub of the Turkish telenovela Yasak Elma, a role that was played in the original series by Irem Kahyaoglu.
Her first professional role was as Nicolene on Arendsvlei, making her first appearance in Season 1, Episode 36, which aired on 19 December, 2018.
Gretchen made her feature film debut in the 2019 release Toorbos, based on the novel by Dalene Matthee. The film explores the uprooting of a young forest woman and her community during the time of the last forest inhabitants of the Knysna forest of the 1930s.
In 2021 she landed her first starring role in television when she was cast as Nadine May in the kykNET drama series Afgrond (Abyss).
Her character is a young candidate attorney from Vredendal who must choose whether to leave home for a job at a big firm in the city or to stay with the love of her life.
The series premiered on kykNET on Wednesday 17 February, 2021.
In 2024 Gretchen joined kykNET & Kie telenovela Skemergrond as series regular chef Patty Paulsen who flees from Upington to Gemoedsrif, carrying the burden of trauma. She made her first appearance on Monday 15 July 2024.
