Ashley Callie (19 May, 1973 - 15 February, 2008) was a South African actress and businesswoman best known for her role as Leone Haines in the SABC3 soapie Isidingo.
Callie won the award for Best Actress in a Soapie for her role at the inaugural SAFTA Awards held at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg on 28 October, 2006.
She was a partner in a restaurant in the La Vista Social Club in Melville, which focuses on casual comfort food.
Callie studied a BA Dramatic Art degree with honours at Wits University.
Car Accident and Death
On Friday 8 February 2008 Callie was involved in a head-on collision with another car at around 23h00 in Emmarentia, after attending the Pirelli Calender launch at Summer Place in Hyde Park.
The following day she underwent brain surgery at Johannesburg Hospital to alleviate pressure on her brain. She was subsequently pronounced to be in a stable condition, despite being unconscious since the accident.
Six people — five women and a man — were injured in the crash, during which one of the vehicles overturned.
On Friday 15 February - one week after the crash - Callie died in hospital from the head injuries she sustained in the accident.
