Mike Mvelase is a South African actor best known for his role as Khapela Ngcobo on the SABC1 soapie Generations.
Mvelase trained at the Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory in Washington DC. In theatre, he lists among his highlights the Vita Award-winning production of A Nativity, as well as Mountain of Volcano, Burning Embers, Julius Caesar, and Sunrise City at the Market Theatre.
For the Performing Arts Council Trust (PACT), he appeared in Macbeth and Wole Soyinka's Death and the King's Horsemen. He worked with director Karoly Pinter in Julius Caesar and performed in Athol Fugard's Nongogo.
For Windybrow Centre for the Arts he appeared in Ariel Dorfman's Death and the Maiden.
Mike's television credits include Hearts and Minds, Africa Skies, Ifa Lakwa Mthethwa, Sgud' isnayisi, Going Up, Dick Sithole and Isidingo.
Mike portrayed Khapela, Tau's manservant and trusty ally on Generations, for a decade. He made his final appearance on the soapie in December 2012. In August 2014 he joined the SABC2 soapie 7de Laan in the role of businessman Loyiso.
In February 2016 he joined Mzansi Magic soapie isiBaya as Phumelele’s no-nonsense uncle.
