Frank Gorshin was an American actor and comedian best known as an impressionist, with many notable guest appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show and on The Tonight Show with host Steve Allen. His most famous role was The Riddler in the Batman live action television series.
Other television shows he appeared in include Star Trek; The High Chaparral; Hawaii Five-O; Charlie's Angels; Wonder Woman; Buck Rogers in the 25th Century; Murder, She Wrote; Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman; General Hospital; and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
He appeared in numerous movies in his career, including Batman (1966), Beverly Hills Bodysnatchers (1989), Body Trouble (1992), Twelve Monkeys (1995), Threshold (1997), Bloodmoon (1997), Man of the Century (1999), Luck of the Draw (2000), Mail Order Bride (2003), and Angels with Angles (2005).
A lifelong smoker, he suffered from lung cancer, emphysema and pneumonia towards the end of his life. Despite his illness he continued to work until near the very end. He died on May 17, 2005 in a hospital at Burbank, California.
