Baby Cele is a South African actress best known for her starring role as Katlego Rathebe on the e.tv soapie Backstage, a role she played for eight years.
She also played the role of Thandeka in the fourth season of the SABC1 drama series Home Affairs and has a starring role in the SABC1 sitcom My Perfect Family.
She also starred as spinster housekeeper Slindlile Dludlu in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Inkaba (2012-2013) and as Gasta Cele, a traditional yet modern wife who believes certain thing should be left up to the husband, doting on her children and community, in the Mzansi Magic soap opera Zabalaza, in 2013.
She has had various roles in TV and stage productions. In 1998, Baby received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role in Not With My Gun.
Later, she won a Vita Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for The Game and in 1996 she won an All Africa Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her role in Jump the Gun.
She was a cast member of the stage musical Sarafina!, performing on Braodway for two years and touring all of the American states. She also performed in the stage play Cards to rave reviews.
The first movie she remembers watching and loving was Scarface. Her favourite home-cooked meal is tripe, spinach and idombolo. She is inspired by people who take their jobs seriously and by looking at her child every day.
In 2011 she played the role of Beauty in the SABC1 mini-series Shreds & Dreams, based on the 2004 play of the same name directed by Clare Stopford.
Between 2013 and 2016 she played Gasta Cele on the Mzansi Magic soapie Zabalaza.
In 2016 she was cast in the role of Colonel Sibongile “Bongi” Nene on Isidingo, a character who was spoken about on the show for years but who was never previously seen. She debuted in the role on Wednesday, 10 August 2016.
