Bio
Robert Knepper is an American actor best known for his roles as Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell in Prison Break and Thomas Dolan in HBO's drama series Carnivale.
Born in Freemont, Ohio, Knepper was inspired to be an actor by his mother, who worked in the props department for a community theatre during his childhood.
This involvement sparked Knepper’s interest in the arts and led him to work in community theatre and high school productions. After finishing school in 1977 he went on to study drama at Northwestern University.
He left Northwestern just before graduating and moved to New York where he studied acting with Bill Esper, a teacher who specialises in the Meisner technique.
While in New York he worked in theatre and made his TV debut in 1986 in an episode of the drama series The Paper Chase. He went on to make guest appearances in numerous television series including The Twilight Zone, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek Voyager, The West Wing, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Le Femme Nikita and CSI: Miami.
He has also had recurring roles in various television series including E.A.R.T.H. Force, L.A. Law, Murder, She Wrote and Presidio Med.
In 2003 and 2005 he played Tommy Dolan in 12 episodes of Carnivale and in 2005 he was cast as series regular Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell in Prison Break.
He has also had roles in various made-for-TV movies including Doorways (1993), Voice from the Grave (1996) and Kidnapped in Paradise (1999).
His film credits include roles in The Stringer (1998), Species III (2004), Hostage (2005) and Good Night and Good Luck (2005).
