Tumi Makgabo is a former CNN anchor and host of Inside Africa. Makgabo returned from Atlanta in 2005 and in February 2006 hosted a Carte Blanche special in which she interviewed British Prime Minister Tony Blair about his trip to South Africa for the Progressive Governance Summit.
Prior to joining CNN, South African born Tumi co-anchored NewsHour, a news and current affairs program at SABC 3. She also anchored the channel's prime time evening news and hosted a current affairs program for SABC Radio.
Tumi's diplomatic interviewees include: South African President Thabo Mbeki, Nelson Mandela, US President George W Bush, Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Tibetan Spiritual Leader, the Dalai Lama.
During her stint with CNN, she covered numerous world events and issues including the fall of Liberia's former President, Charles Taylor, the change of leadership in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, the War in Iraq, the 2004 elections in South Africa, the U.S. Presidential elections in 2000, the World Conference against Racism in 2001and the September 11 terrorist attacks.
