Mary Murphy is an American ballroom dance champion, accredited dance judge and a judge and choreographer on the Fox dance reality competition show So You Think You Can Dance.
Murphy serves as a national dance judge, technical dance teacher, competitive dancer, ballroom dancing champion and founder of the Champion Ballroom Academy in San Diego, CA.
Murphy and her partner were the Austrian National Champions in 1990 and ’91 and performed together in the World Cup Final. Murphy has danced competitively in the United States Nine Dance Champion, California Winter Festival, Moscow Invitational, World Ted Dance and European Cup.
Murphy has coached Mary Steenburgen, Donnie Walhberg, Julia Roberts, Dennis Quaid, Lorenzo Llamas and Ted Danson for various roles, and served as the Technical Dance Director for the FOX series Point Pleasant.
She continues to train champion dancers in her studio and co-organizes two national dance competitions: the San Diego Dancesport Championships and the Holiday Dance Classic in Las Vegas.
