Jessica Mbangeni was a South African Imbongi (praise poet), singer and businesswoman known for her performances at high-profile events including the 46664 concert in Cape Town and the inauguration of Thabo Mbeki as South African president.
She first made her mark as a praise singer when she joined the Soweto Gospel Choir in 2002 and toured the world in Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland and North American States.
In 2006 she founded the KwaNtu Entertainment & Designs agency that uses her connections in the cultural and entertainment industries to get local South African talent exposed through international television shows, local and international television adverts, international theatre, craft exportation, corporate shows and fashion exhibitions and craft exhibitions.
This agency worked with several casting directors including Moonyeen Lee, Amanda Wilson, Christa Schamber, Bonnie Lee Bouman and many others.
She appeared on the SABC2 comedy series Dube on 2 and has had several other television guest appearances.
Born in Nqamakwe in the Eastern Cape, she moved to Johannesburg where she found success.
Jessica died at the age of 47 on 31 August, 2024, after a brief illness. Her cause of death was not disclosed.
