Bio
Tertius Meintjes is a South African actor, photographer and and documentary film maker best known for his film roles as Joyboy in Agter Elke Man (1990) and as Lieutenant Bloem in Sarafina! (1992).
Born in Zeerust and raised in Grootvlei, he achieved a BA Drama and Literature degree from the University of Pretoria (TUKS). In his second year there he starred as Alan Strang in the play Equus, for which he received the Vita Award for Best Newcomer.
Tertius won a VITA Award for Best Actor in Jobman, a feature film directed by Oscar Nominated director Darryll James Roodt and Best Supporting Actor for his role opposite Whoopi Goldberg in Sarafina!, also directed by Darryll James Roodt.
Other highlights in his career include playing opposite Martin Sheen in the Floating Outfit, opposite Kerry Fox in Friends and opposite Sydney Poitier and Michael Caine in Mandela and De Klerk. He won the Best Script Award for M-Net's New Directions (The Pink Leather Chair).
Other films he has worked on include Jagveld, Berserker: Hell's Warrior, Pirates of the Plain, Daisy de Melker, The Good Facist and The Fourth Reich.
On television, he played the good but flawed engineer Riaan de Wet on the SABC3 soapie Isidingo and in 2004 starred as Frans du Toit - a ruthless manipulator, womaniser, bully and the leader of a drug ring - in the kykNET drama series Plek van die Vleisvreters (Place of the Flesh-Eaters).
Other television series he has acted in include Meeulanders, Begeertes, Orion, Ella Blue, Kompleks, Transito, Malan en Kie, Binnelanders, Hartland and Vloeksteen.
In 2016 he starred as pathologist Doctor Fritz Barnard in the crime drama series Die Byl (The Axe), loosely based on the real life South African detective Piet Byleveld.
