Bio
Hugh Bonneville is an English actor best known for his starring role as Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, in the period drama television series Downton Abbey, since 2010.
Bonneville launched his acting career with London's National Youth Theatre, while simultaneously studying theology at Cambridge University. He also trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
A veteran actor, he has appeared in Miss Austen Regrets, Daniel Deronda, Madame Bovary and The Cazalets among others.
Bonneville appeared opposite Kate Winslet in the 2001 feature film Iris and starred in the 2012 feature film The Return of Captain Nemo, alongside Hayley Atwell (Any Human Heart) and David Morrissey (South Riding).
Bonneville's film credits include Notting Hill, Mansfield Park, and Iris, for which he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
TV appearances include Courting Alix, The Robinsons, Daniel Deronda, Tipping the Velvet, Take a Girl Like You, The Commander, Madame Bovary and the Emmy-winning HBO Films presentation The Gathering Storm.
On stage, he has worked extensively with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre.
