Bio
Bongo Mbutuma is a South African actor best known for appearing in a commercial for Momentum Life, in which he played a man who gets a car salesman to test drive a new car for him, while he sits in the back seat reading a newspaper.
The commercial had the tagline: "We believe in people who believe in themselves".
Mbutuma graduated from SACS High School in Cape Town in 1999. He attended City Varsity, taking a course in Film and Television Production in 2001.
In 2003 he joined the Gregg Watt Interactive Actors Workshop and in 2004 landed a contract with arepp: Theatre For Life, which travels to schools with educational drama projects.
In 2004 he landed his first guest role on television, appearing in the sci-fi series Charlie Jade.
In 2005 he had guest roles on Interrogation Room, Going Up Again and Laugh Out Loud, and appeared in the feature film Unrequited Love.
In 2006 he landed a bit part (Hospital Gate Guard) in the international drama series ER and in 2007 got his first leading role in television, as Bafana in the SABC1 drama series Divers Down.
He has appeared in television commercials for Joko Tea, Momentum, BP and Nedbank.
In 2010 he hosted the first season of the e.tv technology magazine show The Tech Report, from Episode 2. He replaced Celia Ncalane as host after the first episode.
In 2014 he had a starring role as Detective Songezo Sibanda, Lungi Mlaba's partner and a pragmatist who takes a more objective view to crime, in the eKasi+ and e.tv detective drama series Traffic!.
