Sam Shepard is an American playwright, writer and actor. Although better known for writing numerous stage plays, Shepard has an extensive acting resume as well, which includes such movies as The Right Stuff, Steel Magnolias, The Pelican Brief and Swordfish.
He also had a starring role as Father Judge, who establishes a church in the middle of Dawson hoping to attract wayward men and women in need of salvation, in the period drama miniseries Klondike.
Shepard is the author of several books of short stories, essays and memoirs, and received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979 for his play Buried Child. He received the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award as a master American dramatist in 2009.
Shepard began his acting career in Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Right Stuff. Other film appearances include Black Hawk Down, The Notebook, Mud and August: Osage County.
