Anika Noni Rose is an American singer and actress best known for her role as Lorrell Robinson in the 2006 award-winning musical film Dreamgirls.
On the heels of Dreamgirls she appeared in the comedy feature One Part Sugar and played Lavender in the TV mini-series The Starter Wife, with Debra Messing.
Her list of theatre credits includes the Broadway production of Footloose, the Off-Broadway production Eli's Comin' based on the music of Laura Nyro, for which she received an Obie Award; at San Francisco's ACT she starred in Threepenny Opera and in their production of Tartuffe.
She also starred in NY Encore's production of Purlie.
Anika received a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in the widely acclaimed production of Tony Kushner's and Jeanine Tesori's Caroline, Or Change, which she performed in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
She also appeared as Maggie in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof on Broadway and in 2009 voiced the role of Princess Tiana in Disney's animated feature of Randy Newman's The Princess And The Frog.
From 2008-2009 she starred as Grace Makutsi in the television drama series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.
