Cress Williams is a German-born American actor best known for his role as Ed Williams in the television legal drama series Close to Home, from 2006-2007.
He also stars as Lavon Hayes in the comedy-drama series Hart of Dixie, a fish-out-of-water story about a New York City doctor adjusting to life in a small Southern town after she inherits a local medical practice.
Williams was born in Heidelberg, Germany. Shortly after his birth, he returned from Germany to Chicago. He moved with his mother to California when he was three and spent most of his childhood in Orange County.
He attended Fullerton Community College where he received his theatre and acting foundation. He later completed his theatre degree at UCLA.
While in college, Williams performed in over 20 plays, including Othello, The Elephant Man, Extremities and Red Noses. His film and television career began toward the end of his college years.
Williams appeared in the final season of the drama series Friday Night Lights. His additional television credits include Cold Case, Prison Break, Close to Home, The West Wing, Veronica Mars, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, E.R., NYPD Blue and Grey's Anatomy, among others.
His film credits include 2 Days in the Valley and Never Been Kissed, starring Drew Barrymore.
Williams currently resides in Los Angeles.
