Molly Shannon is an American actress and writer best known as one of the regular cast members of the comedy variety show Saturday Night Live, from 1995-2001.
Shannon spent six seasons on Saturday Night Live, primarily known for the eclectic characters she created, such as Mary Katherine Gallagher and Sally O'Malley. She was also praised for her parodies of Courtney Love, Liza Minnelli, Monica Lewinsky and Meredith Vieira.
Shannon's credits include the Lifetime movie More of Me, the quirky comedy Year of the Dog and guest-starring roles on The New Adventures of Old Christine and Glee.
She also starred with Selma Blair in the U.S. version of the popular Australian sitcom Kath and Kim. The series earned a People's Choice Award nomination for Favorite New Comedy.
Shannon's extensive film credits include Superstar, Little Man, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Scary Movie 4, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Night at the Roxbury, Analyze This, Happiness, Never Been Kissed, The Good Boy!, My Boss's Daughter, Serendipity, Osmosis Jones, Wet Hot American Summer, Gray Matters and Shut Up & Sing, as well as cameo appearances in Evan Almighty and The Santa Clause 2.
She also provided a voice for the animated comedy Igor.
On television, Shannon co-starred in the series Cracking Up and starred in the made-for-television films 12 Days of Christmas Eve and The Music Man.
Her many guest appearances include memorable roles on Will & Grace, Sex and the City and Seinfeld, among many others.
Prior to joining Saturday Night Live, Shannon appeared at The Up Front Comedy Theater in Los Angeles in The Rob and Molly Show, an improvisational show she co-wrote with Rob Muir.
Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Shannon earned a fine arts degree in drama from New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts. She currently lives in New York.
