Bio
Varun Sharma is an Indian-born British journalist and television presenter best known for hosting his own travelogue television series under the Inside Luxury Travel banner.
Varun caught the travel bug from his parents. Every summer while growing up, they used to pack up an estate car and drive round Europe taking in the sights, sounds, smells ... and hotels.
Varun’s journalistic flair and magnetic personality were spotted early on by the BBC, when as a fresh graduate in 1994; he was selected as one of eight from several thousand media hopefuls to join the BBC National News Trainee Scheme.
Here he was trained in every aspect of bi-media journalism, working on BBC television’s Business Breakfast, Working Lunch, World Business, Newsround and Political Units.
His presenting career took off in 1996, when he graduated from the BBC to become lifestyle presenter on Bloomberg Television and on Bloomberg on the Money for Talk Radio.
He held this role for three years before going freelance. Varun’s freelance career has included reporting on London Tonight and presenting on BBC World News.
In 2000, he set up hugely successful The Luxury Travel Show which still airs in over 50 countries around the world.
After a year editing a luxury lifestyle magazine for the spa brand Ligne St Barth in 2005, Varun started planning a new television series under the banner of Inside Luxury Travel.
He and his team spent much of 2007 on the road producing Inside Luxury Travel with Varun Sharma – a luxury travelogue - and Inside Luxury Travel with Varun Sharma: The Finest Collection, that looks at the best hotels in any one location.
The team gained unique access to some of the greatest and camera-shy hotels and resorts in the world, including The Ritz in London, Hotel de Paris in Monaco and the Casa Casurina in Miami.
