Bio
Mncedisi Shabangu was a South African actor best known for his role as Khulekani in the e.tv soapie Rhythm City.
He was previously known for his role as Skhumbuzo in the second season of the SABC3 drama series The Lab, in 2008.
Shabangu's first big role was in Gordon Motha's Secret Agenda in 1992. In 1995 he enrolled as a student at The Market Theatre Laboratory.
His other theatre credits include Orpheus in 1998, Ways of Dying in 1999 and Call us Crazy in 2000, for which he won the FNB Vita Award for Best actor in a supporting role.
He also scooped a Fleur du Cap award and the KKNK gong for best actor for Tshepang, the story of the rape of a nine-month-old baby girl in Louisvaleweg in the Northern Cape.
Shabangu has also directed several productions at the Market Theatre including Wangesheya-Wangesheya, Kanyamazane Galvanomit Akusiti, Barbershop, Mooi Street Moves and Vuka Machel.
He was also the Artistic Director for the Windybrow Theatre.
Other television series he has acted in include the Heartlines film The Other Woman and the SABC2 sitcom Home Sweet Home.
In 2020 he won the SAFTA for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Khulekani in Rhythm City.
Mncedisi died on 24 July, 2022. The cause of his death is unknown.
