Q&A
Profession
Unemployed, came back from London last year November, performed for Lion King for three years. I am producing beats at home, most artists record at my studio for their demos.
Background
I auditioned in 2003 for Lebo M and they called me in November to work on the Lion King production for three years. After three years I was tired of playing the same character everyday; there was no room for growth. I was the high Antelope and understudy for ED and Banzai. I came back home last year in June. It’s been hell coming back - I was involved in a car accident, lost my car...and not having a source of income I did not know where my next pay check would come from. It’s not easy for artists.
Why do you want to sing Gospel?
Firstly it is the only type of music I can be free as an artist...but I also do it to praise God. I believe it’s my calling.
Who is your favourite Gospel local artist?
Benjamin Dube.
What will you do with the R100,000 if you win?
I would invest it in my recording equipment and get my mother a car.
What will be different that you want to bring if you win the recording album?
I would do an album that shows me as an artist. I have trained my voice enough to be unique, I sing with passion and express what I feel.
What don’t people know about you?
I am sensitive, a God-loving guy.
Who inspires you?
My mother. I love the way she pulled herself together and she raised me to be the man I am today.
What has been your most difficult thing you had to overcome?
I grew up without a father and I was not happy about it. I wondered why he abandoned me, as I grew I came to learn that I didn’t really need him.
Who/what makes you happy?
Being appreciated, made to feel special and loved and the knowledge that God loves and watches over me daily.
What’s your favourite meal?
Sushi.
If you had to send a message to Lindelani what would it be?
"Dear Mr. Mkhize, I believe I deserve it and I will carry tasks presented to me. It is my childhood dream to praise God...if you are looking for the next Gospel Star... I am the One!"
What’s your message to your soon to be fans?
"I thank you for believing in me all this time - your faith won't go unnoticed. I will deliver. What God ordains he maintains, for all your troubles it’s a preparation for good things to come."
