Superdance South Africa is a South African reality television competition produced by Red Pepper Pictures in which Latin dance couples compete in the five Latin styles - Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Cha-cha-cha and Jive - for a grand prize which includes the chance to dance in the World Dance Event in Cape Town in late 2009.
The series premiered on e.tv on Wednesday 16 September 2009, at 21h30. There are 13 half-hour episodes in the series.
Synopsis
e.tv will have viewers shaking their hips and itching to take to the dance floor with the launch of its new reality dance show, Superdance South Africa.
Superdance South Africa focuses on e.tv’s search for the most passionate, seductive and skilled Latin American dance couple in the country.
Swaying to the hypnotic rhythm of Samba, Rumba, Pasa Doble, Cha-Cha-Cha and Jive routines, the pressure is on for the participants to impress the judges with their sensual moves and jaw-dropping costumes.
For 13 intense weeks, South Africans will feel the heat, passion and excitement of the dancers as they compete for a coveted performance at the Superdance Championship, a flight to an international destination for participation in a prestigious dance event and a cash prize of R20,000.
From the extreme auditions nationwide to the nail-biting elimination rounds in Johannesburg, provocative pairs ignite the dance floor with their mesmerizing body movements - but only one couple can be crowned the new King and Queen of Latin dance.
Elimination rounds provide a distinct change in tempo as the Top 12 selected couples perform a freestyle and studio dance for the tough adjudicators and are rated according to creativity, technique and presentation.
Each week, the twosome with the lowest scores will bid farewell to their fellow contestants and the grand prize.
The winning pair of Superdance South Africa will share the floor with dance champions from around the world at the Superdance Championship, a one night only extravaganza of Latin dance to be broadcast on e.tv in December.
At this glitzy event, the winners and guests will marvel at the fancy footwork of supreme international Latin superstars including Slavik Kryklyvvy and Anna Melnikova of Russia, Danny Liang Zhou and Vivian Xue Gao of China, Andre and Natalie Paramonov of Canada and Dorin Frecautanu and Roselina Doneva of Moldova.
The show is hosted by first-time television presenter Jonaid Carrera. The judges are renowned South African dancers Michael Wentink, Tebogo Kgobokoe and Kagiso Ntseane.
