Synopsis
Hollywood fare like The Devil Wears Prada and Ugly Betty have illustrated that it's tough for rookies to enter the international fashion and magazine industry.
Does the same apply if you want to break into our local magazine world? The answer is a definite "yes" in the local reality series Style Intern.
Style Intern gives apprentices the opportunity to clinch a sixth-month paid-for intern position at glossy women's magazine Fairlady, but first they have to prove that they are creative, chic, energetic and cut-throat enough to eliminate the competition.
The winner will also take home a fabulous new wardrobe, a laptop and a BlackBerry – all the accessories a stylish newcomer needs.
All the drama – including the behind-the-scenes action and gossip – will be captured on camera.
First, viewers will see how 20 short-listed candidates are scrutinised in one-on-one interviews before the list is further whittled down to the finalists, who will then take up residence in a stylish penthouse in Cape Town.
The three judges determining the fate of the contestants are Fairlady Editor, Suzy Brokensha; Beauty and Wellness Editor, Shannon Smith; and Chu, the magazine's Fashion Editor.
