Miranda is a British television sitcom written by and starring comedienne Miranda Hart which follows the trials and tribulations of a woman desperate to fit in but can't.
It doesn't matter what Miranda attempts in life, whether it's dating or simply dealing with her overbearing mother, she always seems to fall flat... quite literally.
Her public-school background and posh accent make her a misfit down the pub, but she lacks the wealth and arrogance of her childhood friends.
She has never managed to flirt successfully; she has never fitted in with 'the girls', not least because she's a foot taller than them; and due to years of agoraphobic tendencies she doesn't know how to behave socially, how to deal publicly with her mother or how to avoid embarrassment.
Penny, her mother, is convinced she should get a proper job, or even better, a proper husband, but Miranda's much happier hiding from the world at her joke shop and party planning service in Bromley – Miranda is at her happiest amongst the fart sweets and wind-up teeth.
Lacking the organisational skills needed for retail – or for anything else – she's employed lonely former Wren and humour vacuum Stevie to manage the business, and educationally-challenged Gemma to staff the shop.
