Synopsis
Thousands of South Africans depend on the dedicated people who work in the Emergency Services industry on a daily basis. These courageous men and women give 100% to perform a duty that at times could ultimately save the lives of strangers who need their skills and expertise.
This year, 16 semi-finalists were selected for the 2012 Centrum Guardian Project. They were profiled on SABC3 in a 13-week documentary drama series, Centrum Guardians 2012, hosted by Ruda Landman, renowned television personality and journalist.
The episodes are dramatic re-creations of the incidents that the semi-finalists were nominated for (by their peers). Viewers will get to "meet" the semi-finalists, watch their stories and then vote for the Guardian or team who inspires them to live life at 100%.
A panel of judges that are made up of senior representatives from various Emergency Services disciplines chose the 16 Semi-Finalists from over 70 nominations received from the Emergency Services industry.
These disciplines are the SA Private Ambulance and Emergency Services Association (SAPAESA), National Committee on Emergency Medical Services (NCEMS), Southern African Emergency Services Institute (SAESI), Fire Protection Association of Southern Africa (FPA), Institution of Fire Engineers (SA) (IFE), National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), SA Red Cross Air Mercy Services, National Disaster Management, South African Petrochemical Fire Chiefs Committee, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, Netcare 911 and ER24.
The Centrum Guardian Project is a social responsibility initiative that recognises and rewards the acts of courage and self-sacrifice that the people who operate in the Emergency Services industry demonstrate whenever they put their uniforms on and go to work each day.
