Web Therapy is an American television comedy series based on the web series of the same name and starring Lisa Kudrow as Fiona Wallice, a therapist who has conceived of a new form of therapy, the titular "web therapy", in which she can dramatically shorten session time, thereby hoping to get results more quickly.
The series premiered in the USA on Showtime on 19 July, 2011.
Web Therapy premiered in South Africa on DStv's Vuzu channel on Monday 18 March 2013, at 01h00. New episodes broadcast in a double bill daily, seven days a week. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.
Season 1
In Web Therapy, Lisa Kudrow plays a self-professed psychotherapist who treats patients via webcam in hilarious sessions that are way too brief to ever make any material progress in her clients' lives.
And for the clients she has amassed a roster of comedic guest star talent that includes Jane Lynch, Rashida Jones and Courteney Cox, among others.
Kudrow channels "Dr. Fiona Wallice," a narcissistic, so-called therapist with no discernable training who aims to "heal" her patients online in weekly, three-minute sessions - a modality she believes more effective than the traditional 50-minute talk-a-thons heralded by other mental health professionals.
However, she spends more time feigning boredom, interrupting and giving meaningless personal data than hearing her patient's issues.
The actors, also including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael McDonald and veteran star Bob Balaban are given a script framework, but ad-lib their performances with riotous results.
Season 2
Among the many guest stars who will seek Fiona's advice this season are: Meryl Streep, Rosie O'Donnell, Conan O'Brien, Molly Shannon, Minnie Driver and Selma Blair.
Lily Tomlin returns as Fiona's judgmental mother; Dan Bucatinsky will continue his role as Fiona's assistant turned ghost-writer; and Victor Garber returns as her husband Kip, whose double life proves quite challenging to Fiona.
Season 2 finds Fiona playing the woman-behind-the-man in Kip's political campaign while juggling her burgeoning career as an author and continuing to advise the hapless clients who have wandered into her web.
Web Therapy is created by Kudrow, Don Roos & Dan Bucatinsky for Is or Isn't Entertainment. Bucatinsky, Kudrow, Diane Charles and Ron Qurashi serve as executive producers, with Roos also serving as director.
