In true South African style A Word or 2 is more than just a game show - it's a cultural smorgasbord of young and old, catering to an incredibly diverse viewing audience made up mainly of Afrikaans, English, Sotho, Zulu and Xhosa speakers.
The show's contestants range in age from young to old and come from a wide variety of professions.
A Word or 2 was derived from the French game show Letters And Numbers, which has been running in France for 25 years. Successful versions have been launched in Belgium, Spain, Israel and Britain, where it is called Countdown.
Aside from Countdown, A Word or 2 is the only other English version of the show.
Hosted by the rogueish Jeremy Mansfield the show is light-hearted and fun, and aims to improve literacy amongst the South African population.
